Installation of Stone Veneer Roll – Basic Information
Stone veneer roll, also known as flexible stone or stone on a roll, is an innovative decorative material that combines the natural qualities of real stone with flexibility and easy installation. It is a thin layer of natural stone—such as slate, quartzite, or marble—bonded to a flexible backing, making it suitable for a wide variety of surfaces, both indoors and outdoors.
Surface Preparation
- Ensure that the surface where the stone will be installed is clean, dry, and even.
- Remove any dirt, grease, or loose material that could weaken the adhesive bond.
Measuring and Cutting
- Measure the area you want to cover and prepare the stone rolls by cutting them to the required dimensions.
- Use a utility knife or heavy-duty scissors to cut the material.
Applying the Adhesive
- Apply a dedicated polyurethane-based adhesive to the surface where the stone will be installed. This type of adhesive is ideal for natural stone and provides a strong and durable bond.
- The adhesive may also be applied directly to the back of the stone roll—depending on the manufacturer's recommendations.
Installing the Stone
- Carefully place the stone onto the surface, starting from one end to avoid trapping air bubbles underneath.
- Use a rubber roller or a smooth board to press the stone firmly and ensure even adhesion.
Grouting (if required)
- After the stone is installed and the adhesive has dried, grout may be applied in some cases to fill small gaps between strips.
- Use weather-resistant grout and choose a color that complements the stone.
Finishing
- Allow the entire installation and any grout to dry thoroughly according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
- You may apply a sealer to protect the stone from moisture and dirt.
By using a dedicated polyurethane adhesive, the installation of stone veneer roll becomes even more durable and long-lasting, which is especially important in areas exposed to outdoor conditions.
