FAQ

FAQ – Stone on a Roll (Stone Veneer)

1. What is stone on a roll?

Stone on a roll is a thin, flexible layer of natural stone (about 1–2 mm), combined with a fiberglass or resin backing. It retains the appearance of real stone while being much lighter and easier to install.

2. How is stone veneer made?

It is produced by heating a block of natural stone, applying epoxy resin, fiberglass, and adhesive. During the peeling process, a thin layer of natural stone becomes permanently bonded to the resin.

3. What is the thickness and weight of stone on a roll?

The typical thickness is around 1–2 mm. The weight is approximately 1.5–2.5 kg/m² — several times lighter than traditional stone tiles.

4. Is stone on a roll flexible?

Yes. Its main advantage is flexibility, which allows installation on rounded and uneven surfaces.

5. Can I use stone on a roll in a bathroom?

Yes. It is suitable for bathrooms, and once impregnated, it becomes resistant to moisture and easy to clean.

6. Is it suitable for the shower area?

Yes. It can be installed in wet zones, provided proper installation, silicone sealing, and impregnation are performed.

7. Can stone on a roll be used outdoors?

Yes. It is suitable for exterior façades. It is resistant to water, UV radiation, temperature changes and weather conditions, as long as proper adhesives and impregnations are used.

8. What adhesive should I use for stone on a roll?

We recommend polyurethane or hybrid adhesives available in the “Adhesives & Impregnation” category. They ensure proper adhesion and flexibility.

9. Can it be installed on old tiles?

Yes. Stone veneer can be installed directly on old ceramic tiles. The adhesive fills minor surface irregularities, so there is no need to remove the old tiles.

10. How to cut stone veneer?

Use an angle grinder with a diamond blade or a guided saw. For small adjustments, a utility knife is sufficient.

11. Is impregnation necessary?

Yes, especially in bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor applications. It protects the surface from moisture, dirt, grease, and UV radiation.

12. Is stone on a roll heat-resistant (e.g. fireplace)?

Yes. It is heat-resistant and can be used around fireplaces, kitchen stoves and other heat sources.

13. Can I install it myself?

Yes. Installation is simple and can be done by yourself. It requires proper adhesive, pressing the veneer onto the surface and rolling it firmly with a pressure roller.

14. How to maintain stone on a roll?

Clean using a soft cloth and mild detergent. Avoid aggressive chemicals. Regular impregnation helps maintain the material's protection and appearance.

15. How is stone on a roll shipped?

Smaller formats are shipped flat in carton boxes. Large sheets are rolled and secured in reinforced packaging for safe delivery.

2. FAQ – Cladding Stone

1. What is cladding stone?

Cladding stone is a natural or decorative finishing material used for covering interior and exterior walls. It is durable, weather-resistant, and offers an elegant appearance.

2. Can cladding stone be used indoors?

Yes. It can be used in living rooms, hallways, staircases, kitchens, or around fireplaces.

3. Can it be used on façades?

4. Is cladding stone frost- and UV-resistant?

Yes. Natural stone and most decorative cladding materials are designed to withstand weather conditions.

5. Does it require impregnation?

Yes — especially for outdoor use. Impregnation protects the surface from moisture, dirt, efflorescence and dulling.

6. What does installation look like?

Installation includes preparing the surface, applying adhesive, fitting the tiles, and grouting or sealing. Proper stone adhesives must be used.

7. How to prepare the substrate?

Clean, stable and load-bearing surface is required. Remove weak layers like old paint or loose plaster. Apply primer if necessary.

8. What adhesive should I use?

Use elastic, water-resistant and frost-resistant adhesives intended for natural stone.

9. How to maintain cladding stone?

Clean with mild detergents, impregnate periodically and check for any damage. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents.

10. Can it be used in kitchens or bathrooms?

Yes — provided that proper impregnation and moisture-resistant adhesive are used.

11. What formats are available?

From small mosaics to large façade panels — depending on stone type and product line.

12. Is it natural stone?

Most cladding stones are natural (slate, quartzite, sandstone). Decorative stone imitations are also available.

3. FAQ – Adhesives & Impregnation

1. Which adhesive should I choose for stone on a roll?

Use polyurethane or hybrid adhesives, which provide strong adhesion and flexibility. You can find dedicated products in the “Adhesives & Impregnation” category.

2. Which adhesive should I use for cladding stone?

For façades, it is recommended to use C2 or S1/S2 class adhesives — elastic, frost-resistant, and moisture-resistant.

3. Are the adhesives moisture-resistant?

Yes. Adhesives for stone and veneers are waterproof. For wet areas, choose adhesives suitable for bathrooms and outdoor use.

4. Are adhesives suitable for underfloor heating?

Yes — if they are elastic. Adhesives labeled S1 or S2 are compatible with underfloor heating systems.

5. Do impregnations change the color of the stone?

Standard protective impregnations do not change the color. Color-enhancing impregnations darken and intensify the stone’s natural tone.

6. How often should natural stone be impregnated?

Usually every 1–2 years, depending on usage. Outdoor stone may require more frequent impregnation.

7. Can stone veneer be impregnated?

Yes. Impregnation protects it from water, dirt, grease, and UV rays. It is especially recommended for kitchens and bathrooms.

8. How to apply impregnation?

Apply with a brush, roller, or cloth. Remove any excess after a few minutes. The surface must be clean and dry.

9. Are impregnations safe indoors?

Yes — once dry, they are completely safe. Use them according to the instructions in a well-ventilated room.

10. Do adhesives and impregnations have an expiration date?

Yes. After expiration, products may lose their properties, so it is recommended to use them within the valid shelf-life period.
